When Your Makeup (Routine) Feels Unmotivating

I've found myself applying a lot less makeup when it felt like a "job" or "obligation." I worked in retail cosmetics for almost 10 years, so I had to wear it every day, 5 days a week.

On top of that, I've played in it at some capacity for about 32 years now. Needless to say, when it was time to stop working in the cosmetics environment, I had no motivation to play anymore. I wasn't entirely done, but I needed a break.

Makeup/beauty styles have changed trends so much over time, and sometimes, it felt like a bit much to regularly keep up with. Think of all the steps it takes to "get a beat." I understand "not feeling like it" and the de-motivation involved, especially when it feels overwhelming to complete energy-wise. We're talking an average timing of 25 minutes to an hour and a half, depending on the created look.

It's OK to experience these feelings. Maybe it's a sign that you just need a change of pace regarding how you practice.

I offer small group, online beauty play dates that get you some practice while girl-talking about products, tips, and techniques. They are my Ladies Night In Virtual Makeup Parties, designed as a "Sip 'n Paint" style way of learning a new skill in makeup. We focus on one aspect of the face and/or body for easier understanding and a more enjoyable experience.

This past Friday, we did the classic 1920s smoky eye and dressed up, reminiscent of the decade. We all had so much fun, and everyone learned something new from one another. Wish you were there.

Featured is a screenshot from our session together. If you missed it, no worries! Our "Friendsgiving Gratitude Playdate" happens next week. We are recreating my signature "Collard Greens & Candied Y.A.M.S." olive-green, orange, and gold eye makeup. Please make sure you join the yamsglam.com email list for more information directly to your inbox.

I'd love to see you there!
